Army Half Marathon 2011

Good thing is I had a hotel room near to the event site. I staying at the marina mandarin hotel for 3d2n. Bad thing is I was down with flu and cough for the past 2 to 3 days. (Didnt get to enjoy the stay and I had my period too. Arggh!)

My alarm rang at 3 plus. When I heard the alarm I so didnt want to wake up. I tot I could  just miss the Army Half Marathon and  sleep til the sun rise coz previous night I popped a yellow tiny pill which I purchase from the pharmacy will cause drowsiness for my flu. But at the end I didnt want to miss the race so I force myself to wake up from the comfortable hotel bed.

Met the usual runners and waited at the meeting point for our cisco runners for photo taking session at 4.30am. Arghh... AND NO SIGN OF CISCO IN CHARGE. We woke up early specially for that photo taking. And no in charge came. That was STUPID. UNBELIVEABLE that they themselves didnt turn up . And I shouldnt have wore that cisco running vest. Not comfortable at all during the race.

At the starting point for group photo
Ok put that aside... i just felt weak at the starting point. Throat dry and sore. Everybody was alive and I was there half dead. 5.15 and blast off. That blast off was the worst. My legs both like jelly and my mind was off. Didnt took long that I realize I lost track of my running group, they are gone. They were cutting the runners in front and I was running on my own. And I tell myself that I got to take it slow. Take one step at a time and run as long as I can run. But another side I was thinking of giving up at 10k. I wasnt feeling good.

Just as I reach Kallang and the sun was beginning to rise I felt so refresh and awake. Just as I know that Im running back to the city. And about 11km to go. At that moment I wasnt feeling tired at all. I didnt go fast nor did I go slow.

Very fast I reached fort canning. I loved it. I loved that slope. Maybe next time I can train over there. lol.. and over there I can smell the finish point at far. . After that 3k more to go.

Our Cisco colleagues on duty as road marshall wasnt supportive at all. I hate the part of running past them with their faces staring blankly at me. Cant they see Im wearing our company running vest with a cisco logo. I dont need their hi fives or cheers but why cant they just give us a smile or something???

I finish my race at my PB 1hr53mins. Not that fast but not bad as Im sick. At least I broke my record which previous recorded at 1hr58mins.

Collecting medals
Overall I loved the army half marathon route. Water point is excellent. And I loved the font canning slope!

Next up coming is the Yellow Ribbon Run.
